Zheng Quan has been deeply involved in the field of violin making for 40 years and has made great efforts to improve the level of violin making in China.
Since 1978: has been studying violin making under the guidance of master craftsman Dai Hongxiang
1983: studied in Cremona, Italy, under the tutelage of Vincenzo Bissolotti, Gio Batta Morassi and Renato Scrolavezza.
1988: returned to China and was jointly awarded the honorary title of "Master Violin Maker of China" by the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Light Industry
1997: dispatched by the Chinese Ministry of Education as a senior visiting scholar to France to study violin restoration and appraisal, as well as violin bow making and restoration
2005: awarded the "Star of Italian Benevolence" and the Knight's Medal by the President of Italy
2019: awarded the honorary title of "National Great Craftsman" by the China Light Industry Federation.
After returning to China in 1988, Zheng Quan established a 10-year violin making education system in China, ranging from attached middle school students, undergraduates to graduate students. In addition, he also created a research center for violin production at the Central Conservatory of Music.
Zheng Quan has won more than 20 awards and four gold medals in various international competitions. In 1987, he won the gold award (violin) at the first National Violin Making Competition in Italy, and in the same year, he also won two gold medals (violin and viola) at the Bulgaria International Violin Making Competition. In 1990, he won the gold medal (viola) at the Soviet Union Tchaikovsky International Violin Making Competition.
In terms of scientific research in violin production, Zheng Quan has undertaken multiple research tasks from the National Natural Science Foundation, the Huo Yingdong Research Fund, the Ministry of Culture, and the Ministry of Personnel, with more than 20 research papers published.
In 2010, 2013, 2016, and 2019, Zheng Quan consecutively organized four China International Violin and Bow Making Competitions, serving as the chairman of the judging panel. He has also served as a judge for international violin making competitions held in the United States, Italy, Bulgaria, and Malta.
